Pazo Fine Art is pleased to congratulate Mark Dagley on the acquisition of Hero by The Smithsonian American Art Museum. This is the first painting of Dagley's to enter a museum in his hometown, Washington D.C. Works by the artist can also be found in The Ludwig Collection, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, and Muzeum umeni Olomouc, among others.
Hero was first shown shortly after its creation, in 1987, at Tony Shafrazi Gallery in Soho. Most recently it was seen at Pazo Fine Art in the exhibition the Neo & the Geo.
Dagley's anthropomorphic shaped canvases reassess the purpose and direction of abstract painting itself while drawing heavily on the burgeoning post-industrial digital culture--video games, cell phones, and personal computers--of the late 1980s.
Mark Dagley (b.1957) is a painter, draftsman, graphic artist, creator of 3D objects, guitarist, and audio engineer. He studied painting and sculpture in D.C. at the Corcoran School of Art, and painting video, and electronic music at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In 2021 Dagley received a certificate in Core Musical Skills from The Juilliard School. He currently studies classical guitar and Music Theory privately.
Dagley has exhibited for over three decades across North America, throughout Europe, in Australasia, and South America.
