Epicenter: Sue Crawford, Elise Ferguson and Richard Tinkler
Washington D.C
Pazo Fine Art is pleased to announce Epicenter, an exhibition of works by Sue Crawford, Elise Ferguson, and Richard Tinkler. This exhibition launches PFA-Washington D.C. our new gallery space and a second location, with a renovated exhibition program consistent with the gallery profile and vision. Epicenter will be on view in Washington D.C. at 1932 9th Street NW, #C102, (Enter from 9 1/2 Street) from September 16 through November 2, 2023. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, September 16, from 6 to 8 PM.
These three artists offer a different perspective of abstraction through the intricacy of their compositions and personal use of color. Sue Crawford employs the visual language of color and structure to create meditative paintings and minimalist drawings. The works attract the viewer to follow the pulsing lines of finely tuned color applied to geometrically controlled unpredictable shapes. Elise Ferguson paints abstract forms that vibrate, breathe, and feel alive. Ferguson has devised a preset and obsessive method for creating paintings, giving her works a defined and unified parameter. With contrasting palettes and variations in her motifs, Ferguson's paintings inspire surprisingly complex emotions and states of mind. Richard Tinkler's paintings and drawings reflect an instinctive and intensive approach. His intricate pieces are simultaneously structured and hallucinatory. Tinkler's thorough work method builds upon foundational imagery of geometric grids. By maintaining a common language of shapes, colors, and application methods, each piece builds upon the preceding language and prepares the base of the next. Likewise, his meticulously and zealously depicted drawings are central to his oeuvre. These kaleidoscopic constructs develop a gridded compositional approach to create complex and dynamic geometries.
A full-color catalogue with an essay by art historian and curator Frances Lazare will be published to accompany this exhibition.
